Abbott Northwestern Hospital plans upgrades

Two construction projects expected to cost $199 million on the Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus in Minneapolis are anything but the end of building at one of the city’s oldest hospitals.

Hospital officials met last week with Phillips neighborhood residents to fill them in on the upcoming work on the campus, which takes up four city blocks at the northeast corner of Chicago Avenue and 28th Street East. The hospital hopes to start construction on a new, $77 million “transportation hub” this fall.

The more expensive portion of the work, a new, $122 million campus utility plant, might start to rise out of the ground at the Chicago and 28th Street East intersection sometime in 2021.
