Allina's Abbott Northwestern Hospital shows off new emergency department

[KARE 11, December 19, 2018] Abbott Northwestern Hospital is unveiling its renovated emergency department today. The hospital is the largest not-for-profit hospital in the Twin Cities.

The $25 million renovation includes three more patient rooms, now 38, with larger rooms to accommodate staff and more equipment. There are also new family spaces, including a grieving space for families to spend time with a deceased loved one. Abbott Northwestern also added five mental health beds in a locked suite. Allina Health said that approximately 10 percent of all emergency room patients are mental health related cases.

Square footage was also expanded from 26,600 to 32,000 square feet. Abbott Northwestern ER director Jennifer McAnnany and hospital president Ann Madden Rice showed KARE 11 around the new space.
